A small group of people unhappy with the millions in aid spent by the government to steer General Motors Co. through bankruptcy has begun a protest at Detroit's annual auto show.

The national Tax Day Tea Party is putting on a protest Monday against what it calls "Government Motors."

Eric Odom is the co-founder of the American Liberty Alliance. In a Web posting inviting people to protest at the auto show, Odom says he wants "to make a peaceful yet clear statement against (the) government takeover of America."

But members of the local chapter of the Tax Day Tea Party won't be among those rallying.

Joan Fabiano of Grassroots in Michigan says protesting at the auto show "only casts an anti-capitalist shadow over all automakers ... at a time when the eyes of the world are upon us."
