Russian consumer-safety regulators have ordered 12 McDonald's restaurants to temporarily close, including its highest-profile locations, and locals are increasingly turning against the U.S. company. While regulators have cited violations of sanitary rules by McDonald's, the timing and scope of the shutdowns are seen as a response to Western sanctions related to Russia's involvement in Ukraine.
